Plants of Franz Josef Land

Tikhaya Bay Station (Bukhta Tikhaya) – Historical Arctic Research Base

Tikhaya Bay Station was the main Soviet polar research outpost on Guker Island in Franz Josef Land, operating from 1929 to 1960. Established by the O.Y. Schmidt expedition aboard the icebreaker Georgiy Sedov, it served as a hub for meteorology, geophysics and glaciology before being transferred to Hayes Island. Today the remnants form a seasonal base for the Russian Arctic National Park.
